Frequent Questions Answered by the Health Department

Rental Assistance Help – Tacoma – If you’re a Tacoma resident and have lost your job or lost some income due to Coronavirus, you may qualify for the City of Tacoma’s Rental Assistance. Qualifying households are eligible to receive a one-time award of up to $1,000 per household, which is paid directly to the landlord.

Rental Assistance Help – Pierce County – For Pierce County residents (outside of Tacoma boundaries) affected by Coronavirus.

Meals on Wheels Bus Route – Anyone 18 or younger can access free meals during school closures. Each child will receive two meals: lunch for the day and breakfast for the following morning.

Tacoma Public Utilities – TPU approved funds to assist clients in paying their bills.  This is in addition to the waived late fees and extended due dates.

Greater Tacoma Foundation – Staying connected during Social Distancing

Washington State Department of Financial Institutions – Resources for unemployment insurance, mortgage assistance and financial education for the whole family.

NASA Kids Club & Space Place

Legends of Learning – Game-based learning in the areas of Earth, Life and Physical Science for everyone! Login is needed but free to sign-up.

OSPI Mathematics Family Resources – Find family-friendly resources from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OPSI).

Mathematical Mindset Online – The course features Professor Jo Boaler as well as videos of math in action – in dance, juggling, snowflakes, soccer and many other applications.

Illuminations – Ideas for supporting students in Mathematics with various lessons and games.

Code Studio – Use the four 20-hour online Computer Science Foundations courses as free, ready-made curriculum designed to give K-12 students a foundation in CS principles and programming, beginning with early readers and expanding through high school. Free but requires you to register.

Hour of Code – Fun and engaging coding activities from Star Wars to Angry Birds to coding music.

GoNoodle Activities – GoNoodle gets kids up and moving to fun, engaging content and games. Every dance party, yoga session, mindfulness activity, and game session is an opportunity for kids to wake up their bodies, engage their minds, and be their best.

Starfall – Starfall is an easy resource to use, there are no complicated instructions. Every word when tapped or clicked will read aloud enabling your child’s speaking, reading, and writing. The activities begin with letters and letter-sounds and moves to reading text.

Tacoma Public Libraries Family Resources – Every TPS student can login and access with their student number

National Geographic Young Explorer – Listen & Read with National Geographic! Students can read and listen to the most recent issue of Young Explorers, or dig into past issues to explore more.
